Ralph E. "Cotton" Harris, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, departed this world on June 28, 2025, leaving behind a legacy filled with laughter and love. Born on March 18, 1943, in East Tallassee, Alabama, Cotton lived a full life that resonated with joy, kindness, and the spirit of camaraderie.
For fifty-eight wonderful years, he shared his life with his devoted wife, Mrs. Linda Faye Harris. Together, they created a warm and loving home that welcomed family and friends alike. Cotton cherished his role as a grandfather, with grandchildren Lindsey Parker (Matt), Molly Valladares (Carlos), and Samantha Jimmerson (Wesley) holding a special place in his heart. The joy in his eyes was unmistakable when he spent time with his great-grandchildren, Aiden, Elizabeth, Eli, and Robert, all of whom brought him immense happiness and pride. He took great delight in each moment spent with them, happiest in their company, sharing stories and creating memories.
Cotton was not just known for his devotion to family, but he also had a remarkable sense of humor. A natural jokester, he had an uncanny ability to lighten the atmosphere and bring smiles to the faces of those around him. His infectious laughter and witty remarks were cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In his professional life, Cotton was a dedicated insurance agent in Tallassee for many years and served in the National Guard for seven years. But his heart also sang with a passion for music, performing as a musician in a country music band alongside Harlan Burton, filling his life with melodies and rhythm. When the music faded, he often found peace in the simple pleasures of life — whether watching westerns or game shows, he found joy in the little things.
Cotton's love for animals was evident throughout his life, as he revered and cared for them as part of his family. His compassion extended beyond the bounds of human kindness, resonating with his deep-seated belief in caring for all living beings.
Though Cotton’s life was vividly marked by the love he shared with his family, he will be dearly missed by those who also remember him through the affectionate moments shared over the years. He is now at rest, reunited with his parents, S.B. and Violet Harris, and his son, Mark Allen Harris, along with his siblings, Leslie Harris, Dorothy Sayers, and Royce Harris. Their memories now serve as a powerful testament to the legacy he leaves behind.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Jeffcoat Funeral Home in Tallassee, Alabama, where friends and family will gather to honor a life well-lived and a spirit that will forever echo in their hearts. Starting at 3:00 PM and concluding at 4:00 PM, this gathering will be a fitting tribute to a man who brought so much light into the lives of others.
Cotton Harris, your laughter and love will forever resonate in our memories. You were a beacon of joy in the lives of many, and though you have left this earthly realm, your spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved you.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Elmore County, 255 SR-9, Wetumpka, Alabama 36092.
