Jeffcoat Funeral Home 255 Friendship Road Tallassee, AL 36078 Tel (334) 283-6801 Ms. Mary Nell Atherton, a resident of Tallassee, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at the age of 93. Funeral services will be Friday, June 1, 2018 at 10:30AM from Jeffcoat Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Dric Williford officiating. Burial will be at 2:00PM at Westview Cemetery in Ozark, Al., Jeffcoat Funeral Home directing. Ms. Atherton is preceded in death by her parents Luther and Maude Atherton. Mary Nell graduated from Huntington University in 1948 and went to become a beloved teacher at Red Hill School in Red Hill, Alabama. She went on to receive her Masters from Auburn University in 1958 and in 1968 received the AA Certificate from Auburn. She retired from the school system in 1987. Mary Nell in her younger years loved to travel abroad and see new countries and sights. She loved to Tat, crochet, working crossword puzzles and spending time on the computer. She was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church of Tallassee and loved her Dora Wendall Sunday school class. Mary Nell loved the Lord with all her heart and loved to serve him in many ways. The family will receive friends Friday at 10:00AM until service time at Jeffcoat Funeral Home. The family would like to say thank you to the Community Hospice for her care and comfort, her special friend Mary Allan McGhee for her care. Also the family would like to thank all the loyal caregivers of the family of Ola Mae Henderson and Annie Frank Ray.
