Mrs. Sarah Sally Hickey: July 14, 1948 - July 27, 2010 Born Sarah Veronica Rhodes, in Leeds, England on Bastille Day, Sally was a free spirit who put energy, kindness, and enthusiasm into all that she did. Sally graduated from University in London and worked as a childrens dentist in England before coming to America in 1968. She resided in Greenwich Village, New York, studying dental hygiene and working in a variety of NY clubs and restaurants. She moved to upstate New York in 1977, where she was employed as a cook, briefly ran a quilting business and traveled the country from coast to coast. She delighted in small towns and villages and the small highways and back roads that linked them; her favorite time was Mardi Gras. Sally lived in Eclectic for the last two decades of her life. After retirement as a house painter, she devoted herself to a variety of volunteer activities which included Volunteer Fire Person and Fire Chief of the Kowaliga Volunteer Fire Department, Volunteer Emergency Medical Technician, Master Gardener of Elmore County and as a volunteer at the Elmore County Humane Society. A jazz lover, she served many years as a volunteer at the Alex County Jazz Festival and provided free driving classes for seniors as an AARP volunteer. Her last position was at Victoryland Casino. Sallys constant companions were her dogs. She never went far without them and with Sally, it was a case of Love me, Love my boys. Sally is survived by her sister Janet in England, her brother John in Australia, her honorary sisters Pat and Sally in New York and Florida, and her nieces and nephews, Clare, Trish, Suzi and Chris living in England, and Jackie, David and Colin in Australia. She was married to the late Donald Hickey and to the late Milton Hisler. Her life is both mourned and celebrated by her many friends and relatives, who wish to thank the dedicated and caring staff of Tallassee Community Hospital for providing her with such kindness and loving care. Thanks also go to her neighbors on Hickory Drive for their friendship and kindness over the many years. Memorial Plans are incomplete, but donations can be sent in her name to the Elmore County Humane Society. Online Condolences Available at www.jeffcoatfuneralhome.com.
