Jeffcoat Funeral Home 255 Friendship Road Tallassee, AL 36078 Tel (334) 283-6801 Mrs. Sara Cook McCaig, 94, passed away Friday, March 9, 2012. Funeral services will be Monday, March 12, 2012, at 11:00am from Jeffcoat Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Derek Gentle officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00am until 11:00am prior to the service at Jeffcoat Funeral Home. Burial will be at 3:00pm at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Bessemer, Alabama. Mrs. McCaig was a resident of Tallassee, Alabama, for the past eleven years. She lived most of her life in Bessemer and Hueytown, Alabama. Born on July 26, 1917, in Bessemer, Alabama, she was the older daughter of Clarence F. and Hattie L. Cook. She married Delmar Lee McCaig, Sr. on February 22, 1941. She graduated from Bessemer High School and Alabama College (University of Montevallo) in elementary education. Her twenty-five year tenure as a first grade teacher began with the Jefferson County School System and ended with the Midfield City School System. She was a member of the Sunset Rock Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Hueytown Study Club. Her church life was an integral part of her faith as a member of Vineland Park Baptist Church in Hueytown and later as a member of First Baptist Church of Tallassee. Sara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved gardening, shopping, quilting and being with her many friends and her family. Mrs. McCaig is survived by her son, Delmar Lee McCaig, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Ruthanne Davidson McCaig of Tallassee; granddaughters, Leigh Anne McCaig Butler (Michael) of Tallassee and Victoria Lynn McCaig Johnston (Bryan) of Birmingham; great-grandchildren, Georgia Anne Butler, Jack Butler, Daniel Butler and Banks Johnston and great niece, Elizabeth Waites Baylor of Nashville. She is preceded in death by her husband, Delmar Lee McCaig, Sr. and her parents, Clarence and Hattie Crank Cook; sister, Alverda Cook Waites and sisters-in-law, Betty Milo and Hallie McCaig.
