Jeffcoat Funeral Home 255 Friendship Road Tallassee, AL 36078 Tel (334) 283-6801 Mrs. Mary Evelyn McQueen Smith, a resident of Selma, Alabama, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2016 at home at the age of 93. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at 11:00AM at Providence Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, 4850 Chana Creek Road, Tallassee, Alabama, 36078 with the Reverend Bill Bugna officiating. She is survived by her children, Shirra Smith Rogers ( Hoyt ), LaGrange, GA, Lester Aubrey Smith, Jr. (Leslie), Valley Grande, AL, Melanie Smith Culpepper (Bob) Pleasant Hill, AL; Seven grandchildren; Heather Evans (Lex), Wendy Dixon (Lawrence), Jennifer Robertson (Robert), Trey Culpepper (Elizabeth), Joshua Smith (Sara), Ashton Wilkins, (Tyler) and Trent Smith ( Katie). Seven great grandchildren: Mason Jones, Tate and Mary Carter Robertson, Ford and Anderson Evelyn Culpepper, Henry Wilkins and Frost Dixon and her sister Gerry McQueen Lanier. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Lester Aubrey Smith and by her siblings; Henry Lee McQueen, James Emmett McQueen, William Ross McQueen, Houston Franklin McQueen, Carrie McQueen Bayles and Annie Laura McQueen. Evelyn was born in Elmore County Alabama and she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Leroy and Carrie Hooks McQueen. She attended Auburn University and majored in Home Economics. Evelyn resided at the Black Belt Experiment Station in Marion Junction for 34 years, while Aubrey served as Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent. After retirement they made their home on Lake Martin. Evelyn was an active member of the Church Street United Methodist Church in Selma, Alabama. She also was active in the Dallas County Cow Belles and Home Demonstration Club during her time in Marion Junction. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to L.
