Elaine Smith Dean of Birmingham, Alabama, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, after a long illness. She was born on April 24, 1920, in Tallassee, Alabama.Graveside services will be Saturday, August 13, 2011, at 11:00am from Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Faron Golden officiating, Jeffcoat Funeral Home directing.Mrs. Dean is survived by a brother, William Alfred Williams; nephews, Ronald E. Hawkins, David Williams, Bobby Williams, Harry Williams, Larry Williams, Bill Jollit and Matthew Jollit; nieces, Sherrell Herdman, Amanda Richards, Karen Brannan, Carolyn Snyder and Lisa Herdman; eight step children and twenty-one step grandchildren.She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry Curtis Williams, Sr. and Amanda Spivey Williams; husband, Earl H. Smith; son, Douglas Smith; husband, Woodrow W. Dean; brothers, Henry Curtis Williams, Jr., John David Williams and Charles M. Williams; sisters, Evelyn Coker and Edith Hawkins and niece, Patricia Jollit.Elaine and her first husband traveled the world as he was in the oil exploration business. She was active in local churches wherever she lived. Upon retirement she lived in Spicewood, Texas, for many years. After the death of her husband, Earl in 1987, she moved to Tallassee, Alabama, where she married Woodrow (Woody) Dean. More recently, she was cared for in a Birmingham, Alabama nursing home. Elaine was well known for her sweet spirit, her hospitality and her love for missions.The family will receive friends Saturday, August 13, 2011, from 10:00am until 10:45am at Jeffcoat Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church of your choice or the Alzheimers Foundation of America.
