Jeffcoat Funeral Home 255 Friendship Road Tallassee, AL 36078 Tel (334) 283-6801 Mrs. Lois Casey Harris passed away Saturday, February 04, 2012, in Birmingham, Alabama. She was born August 13, 1923, in Carlowville, Alabama, and was the oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Lamar Casey of Carlowville. Mrs. Harris was a resident of Tallassee, Alabama, and moved to Birmingham in July, 2009. Mrs. Harris is survived by her daughters, Jill Harris Luckie (Bobby) and Joy Harris Bradford (John Wayne); grandchildren, John Proctor Bradford (Nancy), Mary Katherine Luckie Cabaniss (Gerry), Beth Bradford Williams (David), Casey Luckie Whiting (Palmer) and Laura Luckie Finch (Albert IV); twelve great grandchildren and three brothers, William Lamar Casey (Patricia), Ernest Lamar Casey, Jr. and Jerry Hamilton Casey (Peggy). She is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Robert Rushin Harris and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Casey, Sr.; brother, Joseph W. Casey and sisters, Ernestine Casey Garrett and Nadya Casey Mathiews. Mrs. Harris graduated from Carlowville High School and Massey-Draughn Business School. She worked at H&R Point in Montgomery, Alabama, during World War II, as a bookkeeper at Al Levy’s, Sizemore and Sizemore Forresters and was secretary at Tallassee High School for a number of years. Mrs. Harris and her husband were active and faithful members of The First Baptist Church in Tallassee and she was a recent member of Brookwood Baptist Church in Birmingham. She was a volunteer for Red Cross blood drives, the nursing home and for her church and school. Mrs. Harris was an avid gardener and loved to sew, crochet and needlepoint. She also enjoyed canning and baking, which she shared with her many friends and family. Her beautiful blue eyes and her smile were genuine and sincere. Mrs. Harris was a most unselfish and caring lady, having worked all her life to help others and never expected anything in return. How blessed we all have been to have known and loved her as we did. She was truly a remarkable lady. The family extends special thanks for the love and compassion shared by her three special caregivers. It meant so much, not only to Mrs. Harris, but to her family as well: Hamidah Hameed, Wafiyyah El-Amen and Darlene Swanson. Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 07, 2012, at 11:00am from Jeffcoat Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. David Bentley officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening, February 06, 2012, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Jeffcoat Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alabama Baptist or Methodist Children’s Homes, American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
