Mrs. Evelyn Marie Cordes Dubay

Jeffcoat Funeral Home 255 Friendship Road Tallassee, AL 36078 Tel (334) 283-6801 Evelyn Marie (Cordes) Dubay, 90, a longtime resident of Tallassee, peacefully released her mortal bonds and her eternal spirit, returned to the bosom of God on October 30, 2017, at Monarch Estates, Auburn. Proceeding Evelyn in this passage was; her mother, Louise Marie Kuhner (1932); her father, Charles Dominick Cordes (1966); her husband, Ivan Louis Dubay (2017) and her sister, Madeline Cordes Tierney (1997). Evelyn is survived by; her favorite (and only child) Dr. Gregory V. Dubay of Tallassee; her favorite (and only grandson) Mr. G. Van Dubay, Jr. of Auburn; her sister, Mrs. Irene Cordes Hilke of Brooklyn, N,Y.; niece, Mrs. Janice Hilke Malack and nephew, Mr. Glenn M. Hilke. Evelyn accidentally met her husband Ivan L. Dubay, late winter in 1943, while ice skating in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. Classic love at first sight for a New York girl and farm boy from Maine, dressed in a U.S. Navy uniform. They married in 1947 and enjoyed 69 years of happiness. Family claims that Ivan & Evelyn never raised their voices or had an angry word. Evelyn had a long and distinguished career in the New York business world, eventually breaking the glass ceiling, becoming a member of the Board of Directors of Maersk Line International and the first woman to be a member of the exclusive Windows on the World Club at the World Trade Center. Evelyn was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Tallassee, a world traveler, enjoyed Broad Way productions, entertaining, participating in educational, historical and philanthropic organizations. She loved her family, church, home, adopted community of Tallassee and her many friends. Evelyn was baptized at Holy Name Church, Brooklyn, NY and firmly believed in the Holy Trinity and the everlasting life that would follow her earthly passing. In her last years some of her fondest times were spent with Mrs. Ann Noble, sharing fine cheeses and a crisp bottle of Chardonnay. Evelyn’s last words to her son were “Greg, I love you and Van, stay close to him, he’s all you have.” A memorial service is to be scheduled at a later date and will be at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, Tallassee, Alabama with interment to follow.
