Jeffcoat Funeral Home255 Friendship RoadTallassee, AL 36078Tel (334) 283-6801 Mrs. Cenus Owen Murphy, a long-time resident of Tallassee, Alabama, passed away Monday, April 25, 2011, at the age of 80.Funeral services will be Thursday, April 28, 2011, at 11:00am from Jeffcoat Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. David Bentley officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.Mrs. Murphy was born October 30, 1930, and spent her childhood years in Dadeville, Alabama. She attended Auburn University and became a teacher, which is what led her to Tallassee. She worked as a teacher at Tallassee High School and eventually met her future husband, Dr. Fred B. Murphy while living there. The two made Tallassee their home, where they enjoyed many years of good times with friends and family.Mrs. Murphy was a devoted mother and loving grandmother and she is survived by her three children, Deric Murphy (Roxie), Cam Martin (Clay) and Michele Murphy; grandchildren, Bru and Rhys Murphy, Murphy and Blake Martin and Owen Murphy; a host of family and friends who will miss her dearly.She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Fred B. Murphy; her parents, Edgar and Cenus Owen; brothers, Jack, Blake and Wilson and sister, Madge Barnwell.The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all those who have shown support and concern during their time of loss.Visitation for Mrs. Murphy will be Thursday, April 28, 2011, from 9:30am until service time at Jeffcoat Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
