Mr. Luther E. 'Junior' Singleton

Jeffcoat Funeral Home 255 Friendship Road Tallassee, AL 36078 Tel (334) 283-6801 Mr. Luther E. “Junior” Singleton (USAF Ret.) died peacefully at his home in the Liberty Community on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, following a battle with lung cancer. Graveside services, with full military honors, will be Monday, May 21, 2012, at 2:00pm from Friendship Baptist Cemetery, Tallassee, Alabama, with Rev. David Kelley officiating, Jeffcoat Funeral Home directing. Mr. Singleton is survived by his two sisters, Rhoda Singleton Philby of Corpus Christi, Texas and Janice Singleton Hadley of Montgomery, Alabama; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Luther E. Singleton, Sr. and Dorris Singleton and his brother, Carlos Lamar Singleton. Known to his family and friends as ‘Junior’, Mr. Singleton was a lifelong Tallassee resident, except for a 20 year military career. He served his country as being a member of the Military Police, Security Training and Development, The Inspector General (IG) Team and Honor Guard. One of his cherished moments was serving as Honor Guard for President John F. Kennedy. He had assignments in El Paso, TX, Bangor, ME, Holyoke, MA, Eglin and Cape Canaveral, FL. Overseas tours included the Korean and Vietnam Wars, France, Germany, Luxembourg and Greenland. He was recognized as being highly intelligent and Luther and his sister enjoyed touring military forts and Indian heritage sites. They often discussed World War II and the Civil War.
