Mr. Longerbeam was the Fire Chief of the Veterans Administration Hospital in Tuskegee, AL.Funeral services will be held Friday, June 25, 2010, at 11:00am from theTheater on the Veterans Affairs Tuskegee Campus, Tuskegee, Alabama, Jeffcoat Funeral Home directing.Mr. Longerbeam is survived by his wife, Mrs. Kenna Longerbeam; daughter, Teal Longerbeam; sons, Eric Longerbeam and Christopher Barron; aunts, Sally Lloyd, Janie Longerbeam, Marie Longerbeam and Iva Longerbeam. He is preceded in death by his parents; Hunter R. and Dolly Ann Longerbeam; brother, Glenn Longerbeam and aunts, Agnes Turner and Carolyn Singhas. Visitation will be Friday, June 25, 2010, from 10:30am until funeral time, at the Theater on the Tuskegee Campus in Tuskegee, Alabama.Mr. Longerbeam has been with the Veterans Administration for over 29 years, with seven of those years being a part of Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System as Fire Chief. Chief Longerbeam was a Certified Healthcare Safety Professional and a Life Safety Specialist. Chief Longerbeam brought the Fire Department to the Best in Veterans Administration and kept that record for more than nine years.During Chief Longerbeams tenure, the CAVHCS Fire Department received excellent marks in response time and other responsibilities.Chief Longerbeam had a great passion as being a firefighter because he cared about the veterans, employees and visitors who were a part of the healthcare system. He had a deeper passion in educating the firefighters to being their best. And when he went home, he went to the biggest love of his life, his wife, Kenna, and daughter, Teal, and kept in touch with his son, Eric. Chief Longerbeam was a proud man and even prouder when he talked about his family that he deeply loved and will always be in their hearts.The Longerbeams lost a husband and a father, while CAVHCS lost a valuable member who will be truly missed, but will always remain in all our hearts.
