Mr. Gene R. Christy

Jeffcoat Funeral Home 255 Friendship Road Tallassee, AL 36078 Tel (334) 283-6801 Gene R. Christy passed away on January 4, 2020 at 12:48 at his home, at the age of 88. He had been fighting a battle with Chronic Kidney Disease for several months. He was born on February 16, 1931 in Parsons KS to Arthur and Pearl Phillipy Christy and attended Parsons Schools. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 10, 2020, at 11:00AM at Jeffcoat Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Jeffcoat Funeral Home directing. Mr. Christy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Alexander Christy; daughter, Laura (Danny) Jennings and their children Taylor Alexander Jennings and Payne Daniel Jennings (Mary Coleman); daughter-in-law Lisa Williams Christy and their children Chad Robert Christy and Shane Michael Christy. He was preceded in death by his son, Steven Kent Christy of Huntsville, AL.; brothers, Glen Christy (Margarite), Harold (Jo), Elmer (Virginia), Richard (Gerri) Jack (Retta); sisters, Maxine (Don) Ewing, Norma (Lee) Geren. Mr. Christy moved from Parsons, KS to Huntsville, AL in 1966 to open the first Pizza Hut in Alabama with his brother Elmer Christy. They went on to open and operate Huts in Troy, Dothan, Auburn, Anniston/Oxford and Madison AL. A Korean War veteran, Mr. Christy served with the 52nd Field Artillery Division from 1952 to 1954. His loves in life were family, friends, Big Band Music, College Football and fishing. His favorite saying was “Plan your work and work your plan”. He contributed too many social organizations over his lifetime. The Family would also like to extend their great appreciation to the caregivers Linnie, Marylan, and Marcia who shared a great love and compassion in addition to the excellent care they provided Mr. Christy during his last years. The family will receive friends Friday, January 10, 2020 from 10:00AM until service time, at Jeffcoat Funeral Home.
