Jeffcoat Funeral Home 255 Friendship Road Tallassee, AL 36078 Tel (334) 283-6801 Mr. Curtis Wayne Whitaker, Jr., a resident of Tallassee, Alabama, passed away Friday, December 23, 2011, at the age of 85. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at 11:00am from First Baptist Church, Tallassee, Alabama, with Rev. John Carney and Dr. Charles Wynn officiating. Burial will follow in Carrville Cemetery, Jeffcoat Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends also on Tuesday, December 27, 2011, from 9:00am until service time at First Baptist Church. Mr. Whitaker is survived by his daughters, Marilyn Jackson (Mickey) of Alexander City, Alabama, and Cheryl Keahey (Terry) of Tallassee, Alabama; son, Wayne Whitaker (Debbie) of Birmingham, Alabama; grandchildren, Philip Jackson (Amy) of Alpharetta, Georgia, Scott Jackson of Washington, D.C., Greg Gregory of Tallassee Alabama, Chris Gregory (Stephanie) of Helena, Alabama, Whit Whitaker of Tallassee, Alabama, Angie Gibson (Brett) and Alison Whitten (Wes), both of Mountain Brook, Alabama; fifteen great grandchildren and one sister, Sara Lee Davis. He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Mary Catherine Whitaker; parents, Curtis Wayne, Sr. and Hattie Skipper Whitaker and sister, Betty Rose Jones. Mr. Whitaker was a member of the Tallassee Rotary Club for over 50 years and was a recipient of the Paul Harris Award. He also had been a member of the Jaycees, American Legion, VFW Club, Wm. A. Warren Masonic Lodge and Alcazar Shriners. Mr. Whitaker served in the United States Navy during World War II, served as a Tallapoosa County Commissioner from 1974 until 1983 and he was one of the organizers of the Tallassee Quarterback Club. Mr. Whitaker was a member of First Baptist Church (Baraca Class), charter member of Carrville Baptist Church and he owned and operated Carrville Super Market with his wife for 40 years. Mr. Whitaker was happiest when surrounded by his family and was well known as being a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, being totally devoted to his family.
