Maurice Alonza McCarty, a resident of Notasulga, Alabama, passed away on October 18, 2026, at the age of 81. He was born on December 9, 1944, in Tallassee, Alabama, and remained deeply connected to the community and traditions that shaped his life.
Maurice built a long and steady working life, retiring from UPS after 28 years of service. He also gave proud service to the Volunteer Fire Department at Reeltown, Alabama, reflecting a life marked by commitment, dependability, and care for others. Beyond his work and service, he found joy in the things he loved most, especially Alabama Football and the Reeltown Rebels, passions that surely brought him many memorable seasons and shared moments with family and friends. He enjoyed music of all kinds, especially “oldies”.
Maurice leaves behind a family who will carry his memory forward with love. He is survived by his sons, Tony McCarty (Lisa), and Kevin McCarty (Donna); his daughter, Pam Bean (Eugene) and his sister, Mary Wallace (Jim). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Trent McCarty (Anna), Paige McMahon (Tyler), Josh McCarty, Tiffany Starns (Maurice), Eric Story (Jeni) and Ally Meacham (Lance). His legacy continues as well in his great-grandchildren, Amelia McMahon, Aria McCarty, Layton Winbourne, Ridley Starns, and Selena Starns. In addition to the many people whose lives he touched with laughter and warmth, Maurice is survived by his dog, Sassy, a faithful companion who was part of his daily life.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Sandra Barker McCarty; father, Lewis D. McCarty; mother, Lillie Pearl McNelly McCarty; brothers, Lavelle, James and Pete McCarty and sister, Diane Hayes.
The family will receive friends at Jeffcoat Funeral Home, 255 Friendship Road, Tallassee, Alabama, Friday, October 23, 2026, from 10:00AM until service time at 11:00AM, Rev. Ryan Martin and Rev. Paul Colburn officiating. Interment will follow at Reeltown Cemetery, Notasulga, Alabama.
Maurice McCarty will be remembered with affection and gratitude—for his years of hard work, for his service to his community, for the enthusiasm he brought to the teams he loved, and for the family who meant so much to him. His memory will remain a lasting blessing to those who knew and loved him.
