Jeffcoat Funeral Home 255 Friendship Road Tallassee, AL 36078 Tel (334) 283-6801 Dr. Russell L. Chandler, a resident of Tallassee, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at the age of 77. Funeral services will be Friday, October 16, 2015, at 12:00 Noon from First Baptist Church, Tallassee with Rev. Derek Gentle and Dr. Jim Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Jeffcoat Funeral Home directing. Dr. Chandler is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mrs. Mary C. Chandler; son, Russell L. “Russ” Chandler, Jr.; sister, Abbie Chandler Hornsby and fourteen nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter C. and Lillie B. Chandler; brothers, Winston Chandler and Dacil Chandler and sister, Ophelia Coleman. Dr. Chandler was a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at First Baptist Church, Tallassee, for many years. He served forty years in Education, including twenty-nine years with the State Department of Education and eleven years as a Teacher, Coach and Principal. He also served on the Tallassee City Council for twelve years and was an active member of the Lions Club of Tallassee. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Tallassee Building Fund, 1279 Friendship Road, Tallassee, Alabama 36078.
