Mrs. Betty Jane Park Watkins, 95, of Tallassee, Alabama, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025. Born in Ralph, Alabama, on January 18, 1929, Betty was the cherished daughter of a large, close-knit family of seven brothers and sisters who adored her.
Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, embracing each of these roles with boundless love and grace. Her home was not just a physical space, but a sanctuary filled with laughter, warmth, and treasured memories-a place where all who entered felt loved and welcomed.
With a vivacious personality and an infectious laugh, Betty brought light to everyone she met. Whether through her many friendships, her work at the dealership and the bank, or her involvement in her beloved First Methodist Church of Tallassee, where she was a faithful member for over 70 years, Betty’s joyful and positive spirit left an indelible mark on countless lives.
Betty was the proud and devoted wife of Edwin R. Watkins, who predeceased her in 2012 after 63 years of marriage. Together, they created a beautiful life, with Betty offering unwavering support for Ed’s passion as the band director at Tallassee High School for 37 years. She remained steadfast by his side, helping him succeed and sharing in his love of music.
Betty’s greatest pride and joy was her family. She is survived by her children, Susan Floyd Dyer (Ronnie) and Danny Watkins (Linda); her grandchildren, Chrissy Floyd Snead, Pat Floyd, Kassie Floyd South, Megan Watkins Schaffner (Aaron), Wes Spencer (Brittany), and Reid Spencer (Brittany), and her great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jonathan, and Abbie Snead, Keagan Floyd, Porter and Griffin South, Parker, Trace and Annie Jane Schaffner, and Austin and Bailey Spencer. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family who were all deeply loved.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Wendi Bearden for her dedicated support during the last two years.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at First Methodist Church of Tallassee, AL. The family will welcome loved ones at 12:00PM, followed by a service at 1:00PM. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
