Aubrey Clinton "Buck" Abrams

Jeffcoat Funeral Home 255 Friendship Road Tallassee, AL 36078 Tel (334) 283-6801 Aubrey Clinton “Buck” Abrams (Chief Petty Officer (Ret.) U.S. Navy) a resident of Charleston, South Carolina, and formerly of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at the age of 99. Memorial services will be Saturday, July 05, 2014, at 2:00pm from Jeffcoat Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Coy Hinton officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem East Baptist Cemetery with military honors. Mr. Abrams was the oldest son of the late Preston and Nancy Abrams. After he graduated from Elmore County High School, he was a farmer and truck driver until he joined the United States Navy in 1936. While serving in the Navy for 23 years, he was an airplane mechanic and became a Chief Petty Officer. He also served on the USS Forrestal. After his retirement from the Navy, he received a civilian Medal of Honor for saving a Navy pilot’s life when his helicopter crashed into the St. John’s River in Jacksonville, Florida. Also after his retirement, Mr. Abrams started a shrimping business in Jacksonville, Florida, he was an active member of the Masons and he lived there for over 60 years. Aubrey is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Abrams DunLany (Moran) of Charleston, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Caroline Sandman (Keith) of Ft. Mill, South Carolina, Melissa DunLany (Kaspar) of Genevia, Switzerland and Anna DunLany of Decatur, Georgia; four great grandchildren, Jackson Fewster, Harper Grace Sandman and Avery Elizabeth Sandman, all of Ft. Mill, South Carolina and Ada Rothenfusser of Genevia, Switzerland. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Marion “Peb” Abrams, James “Jim” Abrams, Sarah Abrams Jordan and Maimon “Bud” Abrams.
